Peripartum, also known as the perinatal period, includes the time from the 20th week of pregnancy to 4 to 6 weeks after childbirth. There are different types of peripartum experiences and conditions that women may encounter during this time:

- Peripartum Depression (PPD): PPD is a common mood disorder that affects women during pregnancy or within the first year after childbirth. It can include feelings of sadness, anxiety, and exhaustion
- Peripartum Anxiety: Anxiety disorders can also occur during the peripartum period, causing excessive worry, restlessness, and difficulty concentrating.
- Postpartum Blues: Many women experience mild mood swings, tearfulness, and anxiety in the first week after childbirth, known as postpartum blues. These symptoms usually resolve on their own.
- Postpartum Depression (PPD): PPD is a more severe form of depression that can occur in the weeks or months after childbirth. It can interfere with daily activities and bonding, the baby.
- Postpartum Psychosis: Postpartum psychosis is a rare but serious mental health condition that can occur in the days or weeks after childbirth. Symptoms include hallucinations, delusions, and extreme mood swings.
